3 Reasons Why Chemistry Is Still The Most Fun Subject Around

Chemistry has been around for as long as humans have lived, and it is known to be one of the more exciting and hands-on subjects, as compared to the others, due to its engaging nature. If we have vaccines today to combat the coronavirus, that is thanks to French chemist Louis Pasteur who first discovered it, a vaccine for Anthrax back in 1881. Here are 3 reasons why chemistry is still the most fun subject around.

1. Chemical experiments

We all know how exciting chemistry experiments can be and have tried them at least once. A chemistry experiment that went viral on YouTube back in the early 2000s, was the coke and mentos experiment in which the coke in the bottle would erupt like a volcano as soon as the mentos sweets were tossed into the bottles, almost like a rocket. Many kids of that era used to follow suit and do it on their own, too, to experience greatness, and there are so many other experiments that you can do to enjoy chemistry to this day, through school and your effort. But make sure that it is safe!

2. Helps us understand the world and our surroundings better

We can get logical and scientific explanations about things that happen around us through chemistry. For example, cutting onions makes you tear up because lachrymatory factor synthase is released into the air when an onion is cut, which causes irritation to the eye glands. This then releases tears uncontrollably, making you look like you have been crying. There are many more examples of situations whereby science can explain them, and chemistry helps us better understand the world and what happens around us.

3. It pushes our thinking

Chemistry is a creative subject that demands thinking from students. It enhances our critical thinking skills and enables us to use our knowledge in daily practice, making it an important subject for students in Singapore. If you have yet to learn, chemistry is also essential in cooking. Cooking uses various chemical reactions, and baking uses various techniques to develop a food product. For example, flour is added to the dough, so the two proteins, glutenin and gliadin, bond and form a new protein called gluten. When the dough is then kneaded, it makes the bonds stronger. Finally, when it is placed in the oven for baking, the dough rises to grow this gluten network giving bread the structure it traditionally has. There are just so many uses for chemistry that we can use to our advantage.

Conclusion

The limits of learning chemistry are endless, which is why it's so fun to learn. If you also enjoy learning about science but have trouble with it, we are here to help you! Here at Glenn Lee Learning Centre, we offer Chemistry O Level tuition in Singapore, along with N Level Chemistry tuition. We also have private Physics tuition in Singapore if you are looking for a private tutor for O Level. For more information, don't hesitate to get in touch with us, and we will be glad to introduce you to the tuition sessions our learning centre offers.
