Why Learn A Math If It Is So Complicated Compared to E Math?

Why Learn A Math If It Is So Complicated Compared to E Math?

Additional mathematics is an elective subject offered at upper secondary levels, and it is much more complex than elementary mathematics due to the equations and functions involved, along with challenging topics that elementary math does not have. In general, there have been diverse opinions regarding both subjects, some saying one is easier than the other. The subjects are similar, requiring a lot of practice and hours. But here are 3 reasons why you should take it.

1. Double the practice, double the rewards

Suppose you are already performing well in elementary mathematics and have all the foundational knowledge of the topics. In that case, they will also come in handy for additional mathematics. The only difference about additional mathematics is that they require more prolonged and complex problem-solving methods to arrive at a solution. Still, math is a topic that relies on the basics of it. In that case, you will have a ton more practice at the subject compared to students who do not take additional math, and you can perform well for both subjects concurrently.

2. Baseline for H2 Math in junior college

Additional mathematics is an important part that will come back again when dealing with H2 math in junior colleges. If you have yet to find your career aspirations or would prefer to go through a junior college route to get to the universities, understanding specific additional mathematics topics is crucial in ensuring that you can do well in H2 math. Topics such as trigonometric functions, trigonometric identities and indices, surds and logarithms will resurface, and the fundamentals will not be taught again in H2 math. Therefore, learning and remembering these topics is essential to perform well in H2 maths.

3. Train logical thinking

Unless you are confident that you will not be pursuing careers that involve math, science or engineering aspects, it is always good to take up additional math as it is a subject that will train logical thinking and the ability to enhance problem-solving methods from different topics. Learning additional math will also help develop thinking and problem-solving skills in other subjects like science, accountancy, and economics. Critical thinking skills will be valuable not only for school but in the future for work and life as well, to solve problems and make critical decisions when the need arises.

Conclusion

As the famous saying goes, practice makes perfect, and you will have two years to practice your additional maths with the proper guidance.
