Four Helpful Tips To Prepare For The ‘O’ Level Examinations

The 'O' level is undeniably one of the most significant challenges a student would face in their lifetime. After the PSLE, this is the next milestone that will determine how a student's educational pathways can turn out; if they can qualify for a junior college or diploma courses they are interested in. Therefore, it is natural for students and parents to feel highly anxious and worried when the exams are nearing.

Preparation is vital for all exams, and if you are a secondary school student entering your final year, here are some tips for amping up your preparations!

1. Set study targets early on

Before starting your preparations, the first step is to understand your study objectives for each subject. You must know which subjects and topics you are struggling in so that you know how to overcome them. It will help you focus more on these critical areas in which you need more time and help you meet your goals.

It is okay if you miss your objectives or need more time to work on all your problem areas. However, if you realise that you cannot do so and require more help, consider asking your peers for guidance or signing up for 'O' level tuition in Singapore to get back on track quickly.

2. Plan a realistic study routine

Every student is unique and works differently. Some students prefer to study in the morning, while others function better at night. You must figure out your learning styles and optimal studying times to plan your routine well.

It is best to take care of yourself and occasionally relax, so you don't burn out from studying. It is crucial to set your study plan and targets realistically and work around your school schedule so that you have sufficient time to cover all the areas you need more time for. However, do not forget to spend some time with your family too – this could be as simple as eating dinner together – and time for leisure activities.

3. Get a good night's sleep

Most importantly, it would be best to allocate enough time for sleep, around eight hours of sleep every night. It is okay to burn the midnight oil to study at certain times. But it would help if you made it a point to get consistent sleep every night to concentrate and retain information better in class the following day. It will also be good to have sleeping discipline by turning off any devices an hour before sleeping and ensuring that your room is at a comfortable temperature before sleeping.
